Brands I adore 2022

2021 was quite a year for the influx of new and exciting brands centered around ethical and sustainable foundations to pop up everywhere. As consumer awareness has increased we can see so many more people craving to learn how to shop through a more conscious lens.

These are a handful of brands that caught my eye last year (and we know that every brand cannot tick ALL of the sustainable, ethical and slow fashion points). So I will let you know why I personally like them and why I will continue to watch them in 2022.

They were introduced to me by my good friend Joss Whipple from Mend Assembly. So many areas stand out about this brand but the main theme that underpins the magnetic fairytale aesthetic, is the drive towards genderless fashion. This is very close to my heart at the moment as I raise children opting out of the social norms when it comes to Fashion (no surprises there!). I love to see brands truly embracing this progressive attitude and leading us forth in fluidity in fashion.

Thank you to Liv who answered my instagram post last week. We are both lovers of this brand. Steeped in folk craft styling with a country twang. I love the designs coming from them. It is reminiscent of luxury brand Sea New York but a third of the price tag. Plus i love the way this process is made-for-you. So key garments made for your size! All those women that come to me saying they have a smaller waist and curvier legs and never find trousers to fit! I am sure a brand like this can accomodate for your true shape - whatever your unique assets are.

This is Slow Fashion at its best with an individual piece you will keep forever.

As i go to press on writing this article this brand have gotten themselves into some hot water! A Diet Prada story released this week exposes them to cultural appropriation in Mexico. Now, as a champion of some elements of this brand I am really horrified to hearing this.

I am adding them here to say even though they are b-corp which means they rigorously accredited to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability and then once meet the standards are certified. They are not perfect.

The main thing I love about this brand is the styling, how effortless and parisian it feels. I love the way clothes are layered and put together with accessories and it gives a chic sensibility.

I don’t like the lack of diversity of body shapes and so I have only ever invested in tops from them. From a styling perspective I am loving the sensuality and polarity of heavy gold zips in soft organic cotton knitwear. It feels very sexy with a hard/soft duality. Yummy!

I love supporting black-owned brands and so when i found Mie i fell in love. The dreamy voluminous shapes, almost sculptural and feel like they fell from the film Dune. A distinct combination of graceful and raw all at once.

“Míe is a lifestyle brand that provides design and fashion consciously made to be nature-friendly. Our focus is on resort wear, made with natural and biodegradable fabrics, that are breathable, elegant and functional, for conscious women and all women with refined taste.”

All their clothes are locally made by seamstresses and artisans in Lagos, Nigeria.

The brand launched in 2018, with a goal to make feel-good fashion with the perks of sustainability. I can imagine dancing and prancing around in all of these Queen gowns!

I will be spotlighting more brands that are future focused on ethical, sustainable, local, artisan, made-to-order and luxury in my regular Museletter. If you have any brands that you would like me to highlight or you are a brand looking to collaborate, then please do contact me at hello@kerrywilde.com.
